HC Deb 06 May 1907 vol 173 cc1310-2
MR. LONSDALE (Armagh, Mid.)

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been directed to the resolutions passed at a mass meeting of Mohammedans at Lahore condemning the recent assaults by natives on Europeans, and calling upon educational authorities to suppress disreputable political excesses amongst students; and, whether the Government of India propose to take, any steps to support the educational authorities in such action.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.) I am aware of the resolutions to which the hon. Member refers. The Government of India are taking measures that will assure to the universities the support of Government in performing their disciplinary functions, and are issuing general instructions to the local governments which I understand will shortly be published.
