HC Deb 02 May 1907 vol 173 cc1080-1
MR. G. GREENWOOD

I beg to ask the Prime Minister whether the Government can furnish an approximate estimate of the aggregate amount of the legal costs annually incurred by landowners and others on sales, mortgages, and transfers of mortgages of land in England and Wales, and the costs which they would incur on the like transactions if a system of general registration with absolute title were in force under the Land Transfer Acts.

SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

No doubt such a Return would be most useful, and I will inquire if it can be obtained without undue labour and cost.

MR. G. GREENWOOD

Will the right hon. Gentleman give me an Answer if I put the Question down at a later date?

SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

Yes, but at a distinctly later date.

COLONEL HERBERT (Monmouthshire, S.)

In the event of a Return being got out will the figures as to Wales be distinguished from the others?

SIR. H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

I have not the slightest idea what form the Return will take. The point will be considered.
