HC Deb 02 May 1907 vol 173 cc1048-9
MR. W. PEARCE (Tower Hamlets, Lime house)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board, if he will introduce legislation extending the grant of 4s. weekly now made under the Load Government Act, 1888, in respect of each lunatic maintained in a lunatic asylum, to imbeciles and lunatics certified for treatment in workhouses.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) Some extension of the grant; in the direction desired was recommended by the Royal Commission on Local Taxation, subject to certain conditions. The matter will receive consideration when the question of local taxation is dealt with by the Government; but I could not promise to introduce legislation with regard to it at the present time.
