HC Deb 01 May 1907 vol 173 cc874-5
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that intimidatory processions are being regularly organised in the county of Roscommon against the farmers who decline to surrender their lands at the bidding of the United Irish League; and whether he will state what orders the police have received as to dealing with these assemblies.

MR. BIRRELL

I am aware that processions and demonstrations in connection with the grazing system have taken place in county Roscommon. As I have already stated, the police will afford full protection to all persons in the exercise of their legal rights, and will take all necessary steps to bring offenders to justice. It would, however, obviously be undesirable to publish details of any instructions issued to the police for the prevention or detection of any particular class of offence.
