COLONEL HERBERT (Monmouthshire, S.)I wish to ask the Attorney-General a Question of which I have given him private notice, whether his attention has been drawn to the tyrannical dismissal of workmen from the works of Messrs. Guest, Keen and Nettlefold, in consequence of the part they took in the recent municipal election; whether he is aware that the men now dismissed received notice after a former election 1816 in which the manager was a defeated candidate; and whether he will take steps to institute a prosecution under the Corrupt Practices Act.
§ SIR JOHN WALTONMy attention has not been called to the subject of this Question, but if the hon. and gallant Member is right in his statement that the action of the employers in regard to their workmen was due to the votes they gave during the municipal election an offence will have been committed against the Corrupt Practices Act, and if the evidence on which he relies is brought before the Director of Public Prosecutions it will receive consideration.
