HC Deb 25 March 1907 vol 171 cc1464-5
MR. T. L. CORBETT (Down, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will explain why the Board of Works is only paying the labourers engaged on Donaghadee Harbour works 2s. 4d. per diem, while the standard wage for labourers is considerably higher.

(Answered by Mr. Runciman.) I am informed that unskilled labourers taken on temporarily by the Board of Works at Donaghadee Harbour are paid the same wages as are given by the urban district of Donaghadee for a similar class of work. As regards the men permanently employed I have no evidence to show that they are receiving less than the standard rate of wage, but each case is being inquired into.
