ROBERTSONTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will instruct the British Agent in Egypt to advise the more rapid development of the State machinery for training of teachers for the elementary schools (kuttabs), with a view to the establishment in Egypt of a system of free and compulsory education in such schools for both sexes.
§ (Answered by Secretary Sir Edward Grey.) The hon. Member will see from Lord Cromer's Report for the year 1906, which will shortly be published, that the Egyptian Government are fully alive to the importance of this question, and that no instructions of the kind suggested are required to call attention to it.
