§ MR. C. E. PRICE (Edinburgh, Central)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, what action, in view of the penalty inflicted upon George Gourlay for his responsibility in the recent accident at Arbroath, he proposes taking, or what penalty will be imposed upon the railway company or companies for, according to the verdict of the jury in Edinburgh, the lax state of affairs existing at Elliot Junction on the date of the accident.
§ MR. KEARLEYThe Board of Trade are not aware of any statutory provision under which the Railway Company could be subjected to a penalty. The question of their civil liability is not a matter for the Department.
