HC Deb 18 March 1907 vol 171 cc475-6
MR. MARNHAM (Surrey, Chertsey)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the school managers of the following elementary schools in the Chertsey Division of Surrey, Worplesdon (Perry Hill and Wood Street), Wyke, and Pyrford, and the owners of the elementary schools at Ockham and East Horsley, refuse to let the said schools for public meetings; and whether, in view of the fact that these schools are largely, and in some cases wholly, maintained by the public, he will confer with the Prime Minister as to the practicability of giving effect to legislation which shall provide for the letting for public meetings of all schools receiving rate or grant aid.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Mr. MCKENNA, Monmouthshire, N.)

I think some legislation in the direction indicated by the hon. Member is certainly desirable, but I fear it will not be practicable for me to secure the passing of the necessary Bill this session.
