HC Deb 18 March 1907 vol 171 cc448-9
MR. HART-DAVIES (Hackney, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether any supplementary officers have been appointed to ships in which they were senior to the first lieutenant; and, if so, what duties would be assigned to such officers; and whether supplementary officers can be, and, if so, whether they will be, appointed to positions in the coastguard, habour ships, or dockyards.

THE CIVIL LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. LAMBERT, Devonshire, South Molton)

Yes, Sir. Supplementary lieutenants are employed on such duties as are assigned to them by the captain. They are eligible for appointments in the coastguard, harbour ships and dockyards, and their claims to such appointments are considered with those of other officers.
