HC Deb 18 March 1907 vol 171 c459
MR. LONSDALE (Armagh, Mid.)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Secretary of State has informed or intends to inform the Government of the Transvaal that His Majesty's Government will advise the Crown to veto any legislation which allows the renewal of contracts with the Chinese already in South Africa.

MR. CHURCHILL

No, Sir, the Secretary of State has no intention of adopting such a course. The Government cannot anticipate the advice they would tender to the Crown upon legislation which has no existence.
