HC Deb 14 March 1907 vol 171 cc248-9
MR. PIRIE

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that the expenses in the recent Dunkeld right-of-way case amounted to no less sum than £2,400, all of which fall upon the single individual who was personally responsible for the action; and what steps he proposes to take to amend the †See (4) Debates, clxix., 1443–4. law so as to place this public duty on a public authority and to diminish the cost of these actions.

MR. SINCLAIR

I am unable to add to the Answer I gave on the 5th instant to the hon. Member for Leicester in reply to a Question on the same case†.The Government have every sympathy with the desire to preserve and vindicate existing rights-of-way, but I cannot at present give any undertaking as to legislation.
