§ MR. ESSLEMONT (Aberdeen, S.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that the Portuguese Government has decided to impose a prohibitive duty on fish landed at Portuguese ports by British fishing vessels; and, if so, whether he will make representations to the Portuguese Government on the subject with a view to having these duties withdrawn or reduced.
§ Mr. RUNCIMANA Bill is now before the Portuguese Cortes relative to an increase in the duty on the imports of fresh fish landed by foreign vessels. His Majesty's Government have already made representations to the Portuguese Government as to the effect of the proposed measure on British interests.
