HC Deb 27 June 1907 vol 177 cc80-1
Mr. J. D. WHITE

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the price paid for that portion of the Bass Rock which now belongs to the Commissioners of Northern Lights; when and from whom that portion was purchased, and whether it was purchased under compulsory powers; and what are approximately the areas of that portion and of the rest of the rock.

(Answered by Mr. Kearley.) The portion of this island occupied by the Northern Lights Commissioners, which is rather less than three-quarters of an acre, with certain water rights and way leaves, is held on feu, the annual feu duty being £40. It was acquired in 1900 by agreement from Sir Walter Dalrymple. I do not know the exact area of the rest of the island; but it is, I understand, about three-quarters of a mile in circumference.
