BELLAIRS (Lynn Regis)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what are the tabular results of trials of British service ammunition and high-velocity ammunition such as is used abroad, on which the official statement is issued that at 1,100 yards range the velocity of the latter was considerably less than what was attained with British service ammunition.
§ MR. HALDANEMy hon. friend is apparently referring to a statement I made in debate in Committee on Army Estimates Vote 9, in which I inadvertently used the word "velocity" instead of "energy"; in regard to the "energy" of the Lee-Enfield bullet the statement would be quite accurate.
§ MR. BELLAIRSIs it not the case, with regard to the substitution of energy for velocity, the energy is greater with the rifle bullet only after 1,400 yards has been reached?
§ MR. HALDANEThat has got to be proved.
