§ MR. BOWERMAN (Deptford)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that statements containing serious allegations against the police had been submitted to the Royal Metropolitan Police Commission but that the Commission was unable to consider them as they did not come within their terms of reference, he will advise His Majesty to widen the terms of reference, in order that the work and Report of the Commission may be made more complete.
§ MR. GLADSTONENo, Sir. The terms of the reference to this Commission are fixed by statute, and I have no power to alter them. Moreover, the Commission was appointed to deal with a specific subject, and I think it very desirable that their Report should not be delayed.
