HC Deb 19 June 1907 vol 176 c453
MR. MEEHAN (Queen's County, Leix)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he has received a copy of a resolution adopted by the Mountmellick District Council in reference to damage to the public roads leading to the Heath Camp, Queen's County; whether he is aware that an application was made to the War Office in 1906 for the cost of repairing the damage done in that year; will he state what was the amount claimed, and whether it was certified by the county surveyor and the military authorities at the Curragh; and, if so, can he say what are the grounds on which payment is delayed.

MR. HAL DANE

No copy of a resolution has been received from this council, but some letters from them and the county council have been received on the question of compensation for damage to roads; the claim amounted to £121. The War Office has carefully considered the case and can admit no liability for damage. It is, however, a matter for further consideration whether a contribution can be granted as an act of grace.
