§ MR. F. E. SMITH (Liverpool, Walton)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many cases during the last twenty years free pardons, in addition to monetary compensation, were granted by the Home Office to persons convicted of criminal offences.
§ MR. GLADSTONEDuring the last twenty years free pardons in addition to compensation have been granted in four cases, involving six persons. I may add that altogether the number of free pardons granted during the last twenty years is forty-two, involving seventy-six persons.
