To ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the approximate estimate of cost submitted to the Treasury for the abolition of the legal status of slavery on the Zanzibar strip.

(Answered by Mr. Churchill.) An approximate estimate of £40,000 has been received by telegram from the Governor of the East African Protectorate, but, pending the receipt of his full Report by mail, this sum can only be regarded as provisional.
