HC Deb 04 June 1907 vol 175 c477
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

To ask the Prime Minister whether he is aware that, owing to international gambling operations in the United States and in Great Britain in options and futures of American cotton, its price has been j artificially raised to over 7d. per pound on the Liverpool Exchange and a corner for the next few months established; and, if so, what steps does His Majesty's Government intend to take in order to safeguard the Lancashire cotton industry as well as the masses of this country in the future from advances caused by international gambling operations in fictitious raw materials through option and future contracts.

(Sir H. Campbell Bannerman.) I have nothing to add to the Answer given on the 20th of Marsh to a somewhat similar Question of the hon. Member by my right hon. friend the President of the Board of Trade.† † See (4) Debates, clxxi., 834–5.
