HC Deb 29 July 1907 vol 179 c456
MR. CLAUDE HAY

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he will furnish a Return showing the names of all persons admitted into the Civil Service, or transferred from one department of that service to another, under Clause 7 of the Order in Council of 1870, specifying from what position and to what position they were transferred, and the date of the transfer: the Return to cover the past twenty-five years.

MR. CLAUDE HAY

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury if he will grant a Return as regards promotions from the Second Division to superior appointments, specifying the name of the official, the date at which, and the means by which, he entered the service: the name of the appointment to which he was promoted, and the date of the promotion under Clause 18 of the Order in Council dated 12th February, 1876, or the clauses of succeeding Orders which have replaced that clause; the Return to cover the past twenty-five years.

(Answered by Mr. Runciman.) I understand that each of these Returns would require a large amount of research, and I do not consider that any purpose they could serve would justify the labour involved in preparing them.
