HC Deb 25 July 1907 vol 179 cc141-2
MR. JOWETT (Bradford, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether he intends to take any steps to remove the disability under which certificated teachers engaged in municipal secondary schools suffer by being excluded from the benefits of the Teachers' Superannuation Act, although their contributions to the superannuation fund have been accepted by the Board of Education for the past eight years. † See (4) Debates, clxxviii., 335. ‡ See (4) Debates, clxxiii., 275.

MR. McKENNA

The extension of the Elementary School Teachers (Superannuation) Act to teachers employed in Secondary Schools would require legislation which I am not in a position to undertake, but I may remind my hon. friend that teachers who have contributed to the Deferred Annuity Fund in respect of service in elementary schools will be entitled, on attaining the age of sixty-five, to an annuity based upon such contributions irrespective of whether they remain in recorded service or not.
