HC Deb 22 July 1907 vol 178 c1136
MR. P. A. MCHUGH

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether any steps have been taken recently to establish fish-curing stations on the sea coast of Sligo; and can he say when the promised station at Mullaghmore will be started.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Congested Districts Board do not consider it necessary or desirable in the interests of the fishermen to establish fish-curing stations on the coast of Sligo. There are many buyers of fish on that roast, and the Board are of opinion that it would be to the disadvantage of the fishermen if the Board should enter into competition with the merchants and cause them to leave the district. The hon. Member is mistaken in supposing that the Board promised to establish a curing station at Mullaghmore.
