MACKARNESS (Berkshire, Newbury)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Legislative Assembly of the Cape Colony has passed a resolution thanking His Majesty's Government for the grant of 1165 self-government recently made to the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies; and, if so, will he say what were the terms of the resolution and by what majority was it passed.
§ MR. CHURCHILLOn the 2nd July the Cape House of Assembly unanimously passed the following resolution: "This House records its satisfaction with the policy pursued by His Majesty's Government in granting free Parliamentary institutions to the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies, and expresses its confidence that the result of that policy will be to assure peace and prosperity, and to promote the ultimate union of His Majesty's dominions in South Africa."
