POWER (Waterford, E.)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury if a 926 Departmental Committee has been appointed to inquire into the alleged grievances of the clerks to surveyors of taxes; if not, whether it is intended to appoint such a Committee, or what steps it is proposed to take to investigate the case made by these clerks.
THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. RUNCIMAN, Dewsbury)No such Committee has been appointed, but the Chancellor of the Exchequer received a deputation from the officers referred to some time ago, and their representations are now under his consideration.
