§ MR. STRAUSI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can state the reason why motor cabs are allowed to use taximeters and horse-drawn cabs are not.
§ MR. GLADSTONEThe existing Public Carriage Order provides for the use of taximeters with horsed cabs, but no taximeter has yet been submitted for approval which can register a scale of fares complying with all the statutory provisions which now limit the action of the central authority in fixing cab fares. I am about to introduce legislation to remove these limitations.
