§ MR. COCHRANEI beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer in view of the fact that a special grant of £100,000 is to be provided for the provision of new elementary schools in England and Wales 326 what amount ho proposes to allocate to Scotland as an equivalent grant.
§ MR. ASQUITHIt would be premature to consider this suggestion until expenditure has taken place out; of the grant in question and the amount of the actual expenditure has been ascertained but I may say at once that the extension of the practice of equivalent grants to the case of services involving a comparatively small expenditure would give rise to serious administrative difficulties and lead to great waste of public money.
