HC Deb 10 July 1907 vol 177 cc1608-9
MR. SNOWDEN (Blackburn)

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether, in view of the fact that there are many widows, with children dependent upon them, who are unable to get employment, he will consider the desirability of giving preference to such for suitable work in the Government buildings over married women whose husbands are in regular employment. † See (4) Debates, clxxvi., 1389–90. ‡ See pages 1591–92. § See (4) Debates, clxiv., 1022.

*THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. HARCOURT, Lancashire, Rossendale)

I do give a preference to widows.
