HC Deb 04 July 1907 vol 177 c864
MR. C. E. PRICE (Edinburgh, Central)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information showing that it is the purpose of the United States of America to release China from the payment of all but the actual expenses incurred by the American authorities in the Boxer rising, amounting to $11,000,000; and, if so, whether a similar course will be taken by this country.

SIR EDWARD GREY

I have had no official information of the nature indicated in the hon. Member's Question; but the claim of His Majesty's Government was originally based upon the estimate of actual expenditure incurred, which is the principle advocated in the hon. Member's Question.
