HC Deb 04 July 1907 vol 177 c865
MR. FELL (Great Yarmouth)

I bog to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if the Finance Act, 1901, or any other Act, imposes any excise duty on sugar which may be produced in the United Kingdom from beet or from any other agricultural product.

MR. ASQUITH

The Answer is in the negative.

MR. FELL

May we infer, then, that sugar may be grown in this country, and that it will receive a protective duty of ½d.?

MR. ASQUITH

The hon. Gentleman cannot infer that. The Answer to his Question is in the negative.
