HC Deb 03 July 1907 vol 177 c692
*CAPTAIN FABER

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in introducing licensing legislation next session, he will bear in mind the fact that the liquor bill of this country is not increasing, as a few years ago used to be the case as trade improved.

MR. GLADSTONE

I shall certainly take into account any trustworthy information that I can obtain bearing on the operation of the licensing laws, but I ought perhaps to point out that according to Dr. Dawson Burns' annual statement there was an increase in the national liquor bill in 1906.

*CAPTAIN FABER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the words in the Question are the same as those used by the President of the Board of Trade last week in this House?

MR. GLADSTONE

I am not.
