HC Deb 02 July 1907 vol 177 c530
MR. WATT

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will extend the limit up to which probate or letters of administration can be obtained from local revenue officials from £500 to £1,000.

MR. ASQUITH

The adoption of this suggestion would increase the cases dealt with by revenue officials by 50 per cent. in number, and by still more in complexity, and the Board of Inland Revenue do not consider that any but the most simple cases should be disposed of by others than experts. I am therefore not prepared to recommend any extension of the present limit.
