HC Deb 01 July 1907 vol 177 c360
MR. CATHCART WASON (Orkney and Shetland)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that the duties of the police are interfered with by newspapers publishing roads on which it is stated police traps are set for offending motorists; and if it would be within his province to strengthen the hands of the police by offering rewards to such persons who would give such evidence as would secure conviction of offenders.

MR. GLADSTONE

I am aware that the police are hampered in performing their duties by this practice, but the suggested remedy is one which, I am advised, would not prove effective and is undesirable on other grounds.

MR. STANLEY WILSON (Yorkshire, E.R., Holderness)

asked whether it was not the fact that the hon. Member had himself been fined.

[No Answer was returned.]
