§ MR. FIELDTo ask the Postmaster-General whether he will state the total number of savings bank deposits and withdrawals in Ireland for the quarter ended 30th September, 1906; what percentage of these deposits and withdrawals was made through British deposit books; and what was the earliest date at which the Savings Bank Department was in possession of these figures.
§ (Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) The Post Office Savings Bank deposits and withdrawals made in Ireland during the quarter ended 30th September, 1906, numbered 187,321 and 104,273 respectively. These figures were available on 1406 the 31st December last. To ascertain what percentage of these deposits and withdrawals was made through British deposit books would involve an expenditure which does not seem justified.
