§ SIR H. COTTON (Nottingham, E.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether, having regard to the fact that the duty on Malwa opium was increased from Rs.500 to Rs.600 a chest in 1904 on the ground that the price of Bengal opium had advanced to Rs.1,393 a chest, and to the fact that the average price of Bengal opium since 1904 has much exceeded that amount, he will consider the desirability of raising the Malwa rate to Rs.700 or at least to Rs.650, at which it stood a few years ago when prices averaged much lower than they do now.
