MR. PIKE PEASEI beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state what was the entire cost of the administration of the Poor Law Department of the Local Government Board from its inception in 1871 to the end of the financial year 1906.
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. JOHN BURNS, Battersea)The Poor Law, which is only one of many subjects dealt with by the Local Government Board, is not wholly conducted by a separate staff of officers, and it is not possible to say how much of the cost of the Department is caused by this branch of their work.
