§ MR. WHITEHEADI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War what are the conditions governing the granting of a bar for the battle of Paardeburg; and whether F. J. Brockett, late private G Company, 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry, who was present at that battle in the Highland Brigade Small Arms Ammunition Reserve Column, is entitled to receive the bar.
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. HALDANE,) HaddingtonThe clasp Paardeburg was granted to all troops within 7,000 yards of General Cronje's final laager between midnight of the 17th and midnight of 26th February, 1900, and to all troops within 7,000 yards of Koodoe's Rand Drift between these dates. This man's name does not appear upon any of the rolls for this clasp, but an inquiry has been addressed to the officer under whom he states he served during that action, and the result will be notified direct to Private Brockett.
