HC Deb 19 February 1907 vol 169 cc715-6
*CAPTAIN FABER (Hampshire, Andover)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education whether, seeing that the total cost of education is upwards of £20,000,000 yearly, and the total cost of elementary plus secondary and technical is £28,000,000, he can see his way to providing our schools with Navy League maps, which show at a glance all the British dependencies.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. LOUGH, Islington, W.)

I cannot admit the accuracy of the hon. Member's figures, and I do not draw his conclusions, but in any case the provision of maps or other equipment does not come within the province of the Board of Education, but of the local education authority.

CAPTAIN FABER

How much would it cost to supply these maps?

MR. LOUGH

I cannot say.
