§ MR. ALDEN (Middlesex, Tottenham)I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he would represent to the Government of the Transvaal the desirability of re-considering its refusal to grant a public holiday at the election shortly to be held, seeing that, owing to the nature of their employment, many miners may be far removed from the divisions in which they are registered.
§ MR. CHURCHILLThe Secretary of State is not prepared to intervene in the matter. The decision of the Transvaal has no doubt been arrived at after full consideration of the suggestion on its merits.
