MR. FIELD

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether a further memorial has been received from the assistant clerks in the Customs Statistical Office, pointing out inaccuracies in the Treasury reply to a previous memorial; and. whether, before a further Treasury reply is sent in answer to this later memorial, he will instruct the responsible Treasury officials to study the conditions of service of these assistant clerks and give practical expression to them.

(Answered by Mr. Runciman.) I must refer the hon. Member to my reply of the 22nd inst. to a Question on this subject by the hon. Member for the Hoxton Division of Shoreditch. If the memorial is forwarded to the Treasury it will, of course, receive careful consideration.
