HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 c172
MR. MORTON (Sutherland)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether procurators fiscal in Scotland are allowed to carry on private business; and, if so, will the Government put an end to it, so that these public officials may be in an independent position and able to act with equal justice to all.

THE SOLICITOR-GENERAL FOR SCOTLAND (Mr. URE,) Linlithgowshire

As my right hon. friend has on a former occasion informed my hon. friend the question whether a procurator fiscal is entitled to carry on private practice or business depends on the terms of his commission. In every case where it is possible to do so, the settled policy has been to restrict the procurators fiscal entirely to their official work.
