MR. T. F. RICHARDSI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there are many married men with families employed at the Pimlico clothing factory as warehousemen at wages as low as 23s. per week; and whether he is aware that this payment is far below that prevailing at any other public authority for similar work; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.
§ CAPTAIN NORTON (for Mr. HALDANE)There are no warehousemen in the Pimlico factory. If the hon. Member refers to the storehousemen or porters, I would inform him that their wages were specially raised to 23s. a week on the 1st April, 1906, to bring them on a level with the minimum rate for unskilled labourers in the London area, and I do not propose to increase them.
