HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 cc175-6
MR. WALTER LONG (Dublin, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether on or about the 18th August last several organised attacks were made by large crowds upon grazing lands in the county of Longford and the cattle driven off, and the owners or persons in charge threatened; whether one of these attacks was conducted by the hon. Member for North Longford; and what proceedings, if any, have been or are to be taken for the vindication of the law and the protection of property in those particular cases.

MR. BIRRELL

It is the fact that cattle were driven off several grazing farms in county Longford on 18th August. The question of taking proceedings against the offenders is under consideration, and it would therefore be undesirable to enter into details of the offences at present. An extra force of police has been sent to the locality for the prevention of further offences of the kind.
