§ MR. BRIGG (Yorkshire, W.R., Keighley)To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland what has been the total amount of legal expenses incurred by instituting two separate trials in the courts, and making two appeals arising therefrom, for the recovery of a sum of £4 Os. 3d. loaned to Thomas Beirne in 1894 under the powers of the Loan for Drainage Maintenance Act of 1866.
(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The total cost of the legal proceedings in this case was £26 15s. 9d. The particulars of the proceedings are stated on page 9 of a Return to an Order of this House, viz., No. 304, of the present session.
