HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 cc176-7
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN (Kilkenny, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether any, and, if so, what, steps have been taken since the 5th July last relative to the memorial addressed to the Lord-Lieutenant regarding the establishment of another revision court in the St. Stephen's Green Parliamentary division; whether, in view of the fact that over 1,000 claimants for votes in districts of that division outside the city have to travel from the county into the city I revision court, distances varying from three to six miles, in order to prove such claims, steps will be taken to establish another revision court in that portion of the division which is in the county of Dublin for the convenience of the large number of qualified electors there; and whether such steps will be taken to establish another revision court in time for the coming annual revision of voters lists.

MR. BIRRELL

The memorial referred to has received careful consideration, and has been submitted to the law officers of the Crown who have advised that the Government have no power to make an Order establishing an additional revision court for the city of Dublin or any division of it. Legislation would apparently be necessary to enable the Government to comply with the prayer of the memorial.
