HC Deb 26 August 1907 vol 182 cc129-30
MR. FIELD

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether the last Report of the Royal Commission I on Tuberculosis is of such a character as will enable the Government forthwith to introduce legislation dealing effectively with bovine tuberculosis, especially in relation to the seizures and condemnation of alleged tuberculous meat, the consumption of which is alleged to be a serious menace to public health.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) The Report contains definite statements as to bovine tuberculosis in relation to milk, and these are receiving my consideration with a view to such legislation as may be necessary; but the question of tuberculous meat is not dealt with by the Report, and legislation on this subject could not be based upon it. I understand, however, that the question is now being investigated by the Royal Commission, who will report upon it in due course.
