To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the quantity of legalised vegetable adulterants of coffee introduced into the United Kingdom in 1906.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) The quantities of chicory and of vegetable matter (other than chicory) applicable to the uses of chicory or coffee imported into the United Kingdom in 1906 were as follows—

Chicory, raw or kiln dried 90,301
Chicory, roasted or ground 1,264
Other vegetable matter applicable to the uses of chicory or coffee 6

These figures are exclusive of the chicory or other vegetable substances imported mixed with coffee. The total quantity of such mixtures imported in 1906 was 845 lbs.
