HC Deb 29 April 1907 vol 173 cc534-5
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been directed to the taxes imposed on commercial travellers in Argentina, which prejudicially affect British trade; and whether he will open up negotiations with the Argentine Government with a view to the removal of these imposts.

MR. KEARLEY

The attention of the Board of Trade has on various occasions been directed to the taxes in question. They are, however, imposed on all commercial travellers, without distinction of nationality, and are not therefore specially directed against British trade. My right hon. friend will, I understand, consult the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs as to the expediency of negotiating with the Argentine Government on this subject.
