To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can inform the House what is the sum now paid for pensions by the Government of the United States; and what were the corresponding sums ten years ago, twenty years ago, and thirty years ago respectively.

(Answered by Secretary Sir Edward Grey.) From the printed reports published by the United States Government, and therefore accessible to the hon. Member, it would appear that the sum paid for pensions during the financial year which ended on the 30th of June last was $141,034,561.77.

The corresponding sums in the past were—
