HC Deb 25 April 1907 vol 173 c243
MR. STEADMAN

To ask the Postmaster-General if the full-time casual sorters are being retained in the Eastern District Office, notwithstanding the notice terminating their engagement expired on 1st April, and that duly qualified officers are waiting for appointments; and, if so, what is the reason for delay in making these appointments.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) The hon. Member is mistaken in supposing that †See (4) Debates, cIxx., 21. notice was given to terminate the engagement on the 1st April of the full-time casual sorters in question. As I informed him, in reply to a Question on the same subject on the 5th ultimo,. their employment is temporary, and will cease so soon as the permanent revision now under consideration is sanctioned; but the arrangements in connection with the revision necessarily take time.
